Aspelund Winery

In 2007, Bruce and Dawn Rohl opened Aspelund Peony Gardens. Located a ½ mile off Goodhue County 8 Blvd. between Aspelund and Hader, the Rohls have built a blooming side business on their 10-acre property. Besides growing and selling peony plants, they have invested in planting 450 elderberry bushes, 150 apple trees and 80 grape vines. A longtime winemaking enthusiast, Bruce has been honored at the county fair for his wine. It runs in his blood, as it’s said that his ancestors were vintners in France. The tasting room has been built on the north side of their home overlooking the gardens, which has a story of its own. Be sure to ask where the flooring came from and how that peacock came to be roosting in the room. Outside, they provide a park-like experience with the lawn, oak trees, flowers and gardens. The view from the “mountain” is gorgeous in any season as you overlook Wanamingo and the Zumbro River Valley.

The tasting room is open weekends from noon to 5 p.m. from April through December for tastings, gifts and friendly neighborhood talks.
